We’ve been enjoying the ‘Big Four’ fashion weeks at New York, London, Milan and Paris this past month and it’s got us thinking about the kind of cover fashion photographers need to be aware of, to keep the show on the road. Whether you work alone or as part of a big team, we really care about getting you the right kind of cover, and the right amount; no more and no less than is necessary. Here’s the lowdown on what you need to keep your fashion photography business running smoothly:
Your liabilities
Employers Liability
If you have employees, freelancers or labour only subcontractors under your care (for example assistants or runners) you are responsible if they are injured at work. Employers’ Liability is a legal requirement.
Public Liability
You have a responsibility to any third parties if they are injured or their property is damaged.
All independent contractors on a shoot should have their own insurance in place as claims could be made against you even if you are not running the shoot.
Equipment
You will need to cover your own equipment for loss, theft and accidental damage.
You will also need to cover any equipment you are hiring in, up to the value of that equipment and including cover for loss of hire.
Professional Indemnity
This covers claims alleging you have been professionally negligent. It includes complaints about the quality of your work, copyright infringement and breach of copyright.
