We understand that advertising productions can be large and complicated operations. We are here to take the stress out of producers’ jobs and explain the fundamentals of the absolutely essential cover to keep your production running smoothly.
These are the covers you need to be aware of:
Cancellation / Reshoot cover
In most cases, if you are the principal producer on a shoot, the responsibility to cover any costs incurred if the shoot has to be partially or fully reshot lies with you. Your client or the advertising agency you are working with may have cover but unless they specify that to you, it is safer to assume that the responsibility to provide insurance lies with you.
Cancellation and Reshoot cover is split into three main areas:
CAST
Non-appearance of essential crew who are in your budget.
Media Production covers instances of accident, sickness or death. Commercial Producers’ Indemnity protects you for any reason beyond your control.
PRODUCTION MEDIA
Loss or damage to production media, for example, if a memory card is corrupted or stolen
EXTRA EXPENSES
Loss of, or damage to key equipment, props or the location.
Your liabilities
These are the liabilities to be aware of for your advertising production:
EMPLOYERS’ LIABILITY
Your liability to your employees and freelancers under your care (for example, assistants and runners) if they are injured at work.
PUBLIC LIABILITY
Your liability to anyone on set if they are injured or their property is damaged.
If you are the principal producer handling the shoot, in most cases liability claims will be made against you because you are ultimately responsible for everything that happens on set. You will be responsible for carrying out risk assessments and ensuring that everyone is kept safe at all times.
EQUIPMENT & PROPS
In most cases, the production company running the shoot is expected to arrange cover for any hired equipment and props brought in for the shoot.
PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY
This covers claims alleging you have been professionally negligent. It includes complaints about the quality of your work, copyright infringement and breaches of intellectual property.
Travel insurance
If you are shooting overseas, you will need travel insurance in place for yourself and all of your employees. If you are arranging the travel and accommodation for all of the crew, it is also possible to arrange travel insurance for the whole crew under one single policy.
Cyber insurance
This covers any costs you incur as a result of a cyber attack on your systems.
First party costs cover costs including business interruption, breach response costs and data recovery.
Third party liability covers your costs for reimbursing clients and suppliers if you are unable to provide your services, transmit a virus or lose their data.
